3. Open Water Dives:
Open water dives provide the student with an opportunity to put into practice
the theory and practical elements learned in the classroom and sheltered water.
In Sports Diver training, the emphasis is on building a sound foundation of open
water diving skill and experience through a series of four open water experience
dives supervised by a BSAC Nationally Qualified Instructor and partnered by a
BSAC Assistant Club Instructor (Dive Leader).
- Rescue Dive 1
- Rescue Dive 2
- Decompression Dive
- Rescue Dive 3
4. Sports Diver Theory Assessment:
Following a successful result the Sports Diver qualification should be awarded.
COURSE AIM
To produce a diver who has gained open water diving and diver rescue experience
and is considered ready to take part in dives partnered by another diver. Sports
Divers who have gained the qualification of BSAC Assistant Club Instructor may
partner BSAC Club Divers on Branch dives subject to the approval of the Branch
Diving Officer. BSAC Sports Divers are restricted to a maximum depth of 35
metres.*
*Instructor Note: At the end of the Sports Diver course, the
student has only dived to a maximum depth of 20m. If they wish to dive in excess
of this depth they must do so by a series of progressively deeper dives
organised by the Branch in order to gain the required experience.
